Regional Teacher Development Center

The Regional Teacher Development Center located on the University of Maine at Farmington campus, is one of three regional centers in the state devoted to providing professional development opportunities for educators. Our RTDC is currently in its’ second year of offering programs for Alternative Certification and in September introduced a Mentoring & Induction Coordinator to assist school districts in designing and upgrading their mentoring programs. The RTDC provides access for educational professionals seeking coursework, workshops, and other learning opportunities embedded in the context of their classrooms and schools that support academic and professional growth. The founding philosophy of the RTDC is one of collaboration and innovation, designed to bring the best thinking and best educational practice to pre-K—12 educators, both new and experienced, who are eager to build their own capacities to become exceptional classroom teachers and leaders.

The RTDC embodies the spirit of collaboration by its’ unique funding and governance structure. Through a joint commitment from the University of Maine System and the Maine Department of Education, these centers have been established under a five-year funding and program design formula. Each year suggests an addition of services from alternative certification, induction support, professional development, graduate degree programs, and National Board Certification. The RTDC, while following the general guidelines as suggested in the original plan for the Centers, is committed to determining the specific needs of our area and responding promptly to those needs.
